Brindisi is one of the most popular destinations for travellers heading to Apulia for summer holiday. In fact, it is located in the so-called ‘heel’ of Italy, the Salento subregion: enclosing over 800 kilometres of coastline and a land with a marked agricultural tradition, this area is best known for the production of olives, aubergines, tomatoes and cheese of the highest quality. Planning a holiday in Salento will give you the chance to taste a lot of scrumptious traditional dishes and local products while also enjoying the unparalleled view of paradise-like natural settings. The region also offers a great historic and cultural treasure: if you focus on the city of Brindisi alone, you will see that its historic centre is a very fine specimen of Medieval architecture, with its maze of tiny alleys which suddenly flow into the panoramic view of the city harbour that recalls the scenery of a Norwegian fiord. Brindisi harbour is also a romantic setting to take a walk with your partner, enjoy a tasty breakfast together and then head towards the city’s most iconic landmarks, such as the Swabian Castle, the Rotonda of the Templar Kings and the archaeological museum.
While Brindisi alone has a lot to offer, the entire region and more specifically the Salento area are really worth a visit. Salento seaside destinations are particularly appreciated both by tourists and the locals because they offer a wide variety of sceneries ranging from fine white sand beaches to rocky beaches suitable for more adventurous travellers. All of them overlook one of the clearest stretches of sea in Italy and enclose hidden inlets and grottos which make a magical setting for snorkelling and swimming. As far as nightlife is concerned Salento is, again, probably the best place to be while on holiday in Apulia region: seaside towns are generally very lively, with restaurants staying open up till very late at night and many clubs to spend your after dinner hours dancing or having fun with friends. Renting a car in Brindisi will allow you to enjoy day and night life at its fullest, mingling with locals, seeing new places every day and getting the best out of your holiday in Apulia. Check Locauto special offers on car rentals and enjoy the freedom of exploring Salento by car as far and wide as you wish by relying on our Brindisi car hire service: our fleet comprises a rich variety of makes and models to suit your travelling needs, no matter if you are staying here for just for a few days or for all summer and if you are travelling solo, with your family or with friends!
Brindisi Airport, also known as Salento airport, stands by the Adriatic Sea and is just a few kilometres away from the city centre, which can be reached in a 20 minutes’ drive. Choosing Brindisi as your flight destination is the best option if you are planning to book (or have already booked) an apartment or hotel along the Salento coast. Lecce is also quite close to Brindisi, as it can be reached by car in about 40 minutes, while if you wish to cross the region and get to the Ionic coast, you will need at least an hour’s drive: the reward is worth the journey, because here are some of the most famous seaside destinations in Apulia region, such as Gallipoli, Porto Cesareo and Punta Prosciutto. Renting a car in Apulia is the most convenient way to include almost every meaningful landmark in your holiday plan, while travelling by train would take you away a lot of time more.

Brindisi is a lively city with a very ancient history. Traces of the Ancient Roman dominion are scattered all over the city, for instance in the Roman Columns, which are Brindisi’s most famous symbol.
Rising on the Ionian Sea, Gallipoli is one of the most renown seaside destinations in Apulia region. It has a fortified historic centre facing the sea and rich in Baroque buildings.
Another neat example of Salento Baroque, Lecce gives its best at sunset, when the sun lights up the stone façades of buildings and paints them in peculiar shades of pink, orange and red.
The Salento region is scattered with a series of large farms called ‘masserie’, which are the best places to go to savour the true taste of Apulian cuisine and buy traditional products.
