Have you planned to go on holiday in Sardinia and are unsure about the best place to stay? The city of Olbia is generally a great choice for accommodation as it is located along the Costa Smeralda (literally the ‘Emerald Coast’), which encloses the top-rated beaches and most renown sea resorts in the whole region. It offers a wide variety of natural scenarios, such as the reddish sand of the ‘Saline’ beach, the Mediterranean brush-framed beach of the Spiaggia Del Dottore and the white-sand beach and crystal-clear sea of Cala Brandinchi near San Teodoro. Olbia is also alive with events all year round and scattered with little shop and boutiques where you can buy traditional food and fancy clothes; the historic centre is rich in historic landmarks as well, such as the Medieval Basilica of San Simplicio, the Art Nouveau buildings along Corso Umberto street and the church of Saint Paul, which is very easy to spot thanks to its multicoloured dome. Moreover, archaeological sites dating back to the Nuragic era and to the Roman Empire can be found both in Olbia and just outside it
Olbia has always been the best destination for travellers as it is very well connected with the other Italian regions and foreign countries: whether you arrive here by ferry or plane, we advise you renting a car at Olbia airport and continue your journey by car. It is indeed very difficult to travel all through Sardinia by relying on public transport, which is very irregular and thus unreliable. Moreover, many beaches as well as the most beautiful hamlets in the inland just cannot be reached without a car. Locauto’s network comprises many rental offices in Sardinia to comply with your travelling needs: for instance, you may decide to pick up your car at Olbia airport and return it at one of our offices in Alghero or Cagliari, after completing a full tour of Sardinia by car. Much can be seen and done during your holiday in Sardinia by relying on a private vehicle with unlimited mileage: not only Sardinia offers stunning beaches from North to South and from West to East, but also incredible natural reserves and challenging hiking/climbing trails can be found in the inland. All over Sardinia you can also taste delicious traditional dishes, among which we strongly recommend you trying at least culurgiones (stuffed dumplings), seadas (fried pastries stuffed with cheese and topped with honey) and seafood fregola with saffron. Discover our current offers on car rentals and choose your car among a rich variety of makes and models: our fleet also comprises small, medium and large vans suited for higher loading needs!
Olbia Airport (also known as Costa Smeralda Airport) can be reached both by car and by bus from Olbia city centre, which is just a few kilometres away. The airport is also close to the main coastal motorways, which will allow you to reach the most famous seaside destinations – such as Golfo Aranci, Porto Cervo and Santa Teresa di Gallura - in no time at all. Remember to sign up for a Kasko insurance so as to avoid having to pay big sums of money in case any accidental damage is done to your rental car during your stay in Sardinia.

Nuraghes are the distinctive symbol of Sardinian culture: they are ancient megalithic buildings which date back to the Nuragic Age. There is more than 7000 of them all over the island.
According to Sardinian people, Cala Mariolu is the region’s most beautiful beach and no wonder why: framed by high cliffs, its white and pink pebbles-beach is brushed by the clearest sea ever.
La Maddalena is an archipelago in the province of Sassari known for its rocky beaches and beautiful natural sceneries. It is connected to the nearby island of Caprera by causeway.
