Veneto is the stage for some of the most beautiful downhill runs in the world for ski and snowboard enthusiasts. Skiing here means finding yourself face to face with giants such as the Tofane, Cristallo, or Marmolada, while also enjoying the advantage of warm hospitality and a high-altitude culinary tradition like no other. Here are our recommendations on where to ski in Veneto.
You can’t talk about skiing in Veneto without starting with Cortina d’Ampezzo, the “Queen of the Dolomites.” Located in the wide Ampezzo basin in the province of Belluno, Cortina offers legendary slopes such as the Olympia delle Tofane. It can be reached in about 2 hours from Venice and just over 1 hour and 30 minutes from Treviso, driving along the A27 motorway to Pian di Vedoia, and is the must-visit destination for those looking for a mix of sport, glamour, and breathtaking views.
Not far away, the Arabba-Marmolada ski area represents the technical heart of the region. From here, you can access the Marmolada glacier, the “Queen,” where you can ski down the so-called Bellunese, a 12 km slope descending from the 3,265 meters of Punta Rocca: this is why it is the ideal choice for expert skiers looking for challenging gradients and perfect snow until late in the season. Arabba is directly connected to the Sellaronda circuit and is about 2 hours and 30 minutes from Venice.
Another gem in the Belluno area is Civetta, a vast ski area highly appreciated for night skiing in Val di Zoldo, reachable in about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Padua or Treviso.
For those looking for a more relaxed atmosphere or who are beginners, Cadore offers resorts such as San Vito di Cadore or Auronzo, with the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo as a backdrop. These resorts are perfect for families who want to ski without the stress of large crowds and are about 2 hours from Venice.
If instead you are in Vicenza or Padua and are looking for a quick getaway, the Asiago Plateau is the right answer: while it does not have the altitude of the Dolomites, it is a paradise for relaxation and cross-country skiing, as well as offering several downhill runs in the Melette and Kaberlaba areas. It can be reached in just 1 hour from Vicenza and about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Padua, making it the favorite destination for a Saturday or Sunday in the snow without long journeys.
Be careful, however, about when you set off: roads in the Belluno area, especially the Alemagna state road towards Cortina, can be very busy during holiday periods. The advice is to leave early in the morning and always monitor the Dolomite passes (such as Pordoi or Falzarego), which may close in case of heavy snowfall. Many resorts in Veneto offer Park & Ride services to make access to the lifts easier.

If you want to enjoy the freedom of exploring different ski areas in a single weekend, we suggest evaluating car rental options in Veneto, making sure to request a vehicle with full winter equipment to safely tackle mountain passes.
