Guide to the most beautiful beaches in Puglia

Di Locauto-

With 800 km of coastline between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas ranging from the long sandy beaches of Salento to the rocky coves of the Gargano Puglia offers a wide variety of seaside landscapes, perfect for both relaxation seekers and adventurous explorers. While some destinations can become crowded during peak season, with your own vehicle and a bit of planning ahead, you can discover more authentic, less touristy spots. This guide will take you through the most beautiful beaches in Puglia, from iconic landmarks to hidden gems.

Gargano: Baia delle Zagare and Vignanotica

In the northern part of the region, the Gargano promontory features a unique landscape of tall white cliffs, sea caves, and hidden inlets. Among the must-see beaches is Baia delle Zagare, famous for its dramatic sea stacks rising from turquoise waters. Access is limited and regulated it can be reached through certain hotels in the area or by boat excursions.

If you’re looking for something equally stunning but more accessible, head to nearby Vignanotica a beach of white pebbles and crystal-clear waters, nestled between cliffs and reachable by car with a short walk at the end.

Bari coast and Itria Valley: Lama Monachile and Torre Guaceto

Heading down the Adriatic coast, make a stop at the famous Lama Monachile in Polignano a Mare. More than for swimming, this small pebbled beach impresses with its dramatic setting: a natural canyon beneath the historic center, offering breathtaking views and deep waters perfect for a refreshing dive. Nearby, you’ll find rocky platforms for sunbathing and more secluded coves.

For a nature-immersed beach experience, Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve, near Brindisi, is a must. There are no beach clubs here just sand dunes, Mediterranean scrub, and crystal-clear sea. Access is on foot or by shuttle from outer parking areas, but the effort is well rewarded by the peaceful atmosphere. One of the best beaches in Puglia for families or snorkeling enthusiasts.

Ionian Salento: Punta Prosciutto and Marina di Pescoluse

On the Ionian coast of Salento lie some of the most beloved beaches in all of Puglia. Punta Prosciutto, in the municipality of Porto Cesareo, is famous for its soft white sand and clear, shallow waters many consider it the most beautiful sea in the region. It can get very crowded during peak season, but in quieter times it offers a Caribbean-like setting without needing to board a plane.

Further south, Marina di Pescoluse is nicknamed "the Maldives of Salento" for its turquoise waters and fine sand. The shoreline is well equipped but still offers plenty of free areas a perfect destination for those who want comfort without sacrificing natural beauty.

Puglia’s most iconic beaches: Baia dei Turchi and Torre dell’Orso

Between Otranto and Melendugno, you'll find some of the most famous beaches in Puglia. Baia dei Turchi, part of the protected Alimini Lakes oasis, is a small paradise only reachable on foot through a pine forest. The beach is sandy, the sea shifts from green to deep blue, and the environment remains largely unspoiled.

Torre dell’Orso, on the other hand, is livelier and ideal for a day at the beach with all the amenities. Its signature feature is the pair of sea stacks known as "Le Due Sorelle" (“The Two Sisters”), symbols of the area. The sea is clear and usually calm, making it suitable even for young children.
