Calabria is probably one of Italy's lesser known regions and quite unfairly. Its impressive 500-miles-long coastline offers in fact beautiful beaches which range from white-sand paradises to dark, steep rocks plunging into waves of the deepest blue: although any province can boast such stunning sunbathing temples, Catanzaro encloses some of the most breathtaking ones. For instance, the beach of Caminia is a stripe of sand which crawls along the line of an impressive cliff rich in natural caves where swallows and peregrine falcons make their nests. The province of Catanzaro is also rich in archeological sites and natural treasures which, unfairly enough, are vastly unknown among tourists. If you're planning a trip near Catanzaro, we absolutely advise you to make a day trip to the Sila National Park, a 74000 hectares' wide area offering magical hiking routes across valleys and around mountains and lakes. You will be thrilled to find plants and animals here which are typical of Northern Italy. Pushing a little further south, you may wish to visit the Aspromonte Regional Park near Reggio Calabria, from where you can spot the summit of Mount Etna on fine crisp days. Don’t forget to taste the regional traditional dishes during your vacation in Catanzaro: make a list prior to getting on the plane!
If you’re already set for a vacation in Calabria and are now looking for a way to fit all your travelling plans into the span of a week or two, you may consider hiring a car at Lamezia Terme airport, one of the most important airports in southern Italy and also the best positioned if you wish to explore Calabria region far and wide. Lamezia Terme is located on the western coast of Calabria, just a 30 minutes’ drive from the city of Catanzaro and equally distant from Vibo Valentia; in just an hour more you will get to Reggio Calabria, the southernmost province of Calabria, overlooking the Strait of Messina and Sicily, where you can get by ferry. Please note that Locauto allows you to choose different pick up and drop off car rental locations, so if you have time enough to spare you can consider visiting also the eastern coast of Sicily and return your car at one of our offices there at the end of your vacation! We have plenty of car makes and models which you can hire at Locauto that will suit your travelling needs perfectly, from electric compact cars to all-terrain SUVs. Check availability online and get the best deal for your car hire in Lamezia Terme right now!
Many companies fly to and from Lamezia Terme, including national and low cost companies, so we trust you won’t have any issues finding a good flight offer to travel to Catanzaro’s airport. Reaching Catanzaro from Lamezia Terme airport is very simple: you’ll just have to get the Strada Statale 280 dei Due Mari / E848 and you’ll be there in about 30 minutes. Before heading to Catanzaro, though, we advise you to make a detour towards Lamezia Terme centre, where you can see many archaeological sites from the Neolithic, up to the Ancient Roman and Medieval age and furthermore. Alternatively, if you’re itching for some seaside life, the beautiful beaches of Amantea, Tropea and Roccelletta are quite close to Lamezia Terme airport as well.
