Rent a Frosinone
Nestled on the top of a hill, the historic center of Frosinone has many relics from Roman times, including an amphitheater, the baths, and some dwellings; many artifacts are collected inside the local archaeological museum, while the excavations of the amphitheater can be visited in the open air. Most of the ancient village was destroyed by an earthquake in the 1300s and never rebuilt, so the town has many new buildings alongside the last remnants of ancient civilizations. Prominent among the 20th-century buildings is the Provincial Palace, inside which many sculptural and pictorial works by authors such as Cataldi, Guttuso, and Mastroianni can be admired.

Prominent among the 20th-century buildings is the Province building, inside which one can admire numerous sculptural and pictorial works by authors such as Cataldi, Guttuso, and Mastroianni. A rather quiet town, Frosinone also offers a large hillside park that spreads out in the upper part of the city and is the place of choice for lovers of outdoor activities: here there are also several refreshment spots and games for children, as well as colorful views to photograph during the rose-blossoming season. Those who love to walk will find another point of interest in the “Contessa De Matthaeis” Municipal Villa, restored in 2002, characterized by an alternation of long hedges and flower beds, as well as a mixed forest in the part used as a lawn where citizens often go to play sports activities.
Much more enticing than the historic center is actually the province of Frosinone, which has numerous attractions both for nature lovers and for those who prefer architecture and history, and in any case for food lovers: in fact, it is very easy to meet on one’s way typical taverns with extremely low prices where one can taste the specialties of Ciociaria cuisine, such as the classic “soup with bread underneath,” the numerous meat dishes, including roulades, abbacchi and skewers especially of lamb and sheep, and then, to finish, the tasty wine donuts and almond tozzetti, the Frosinone cousins of the famous cantuccini. Once properly refreshed, one can properly appreciate the city’s surroundings, which include several castles easily reached by renting a car in Frosinone. One of the most evocative is to be found in Isola del Liri, a medieval hamlet nestled along the banks of the Liri River, which forms, right in the historic center, a majestic twenty-seven-meter waterfall. In the Ernici Mountains we then find Fiuggi, also medieval albeit with later interpolations in Art Nouveau style, which is home to the very famous and splendid thermal baths. Not to be missed then, for history lovers, is the city of Cassino, the second largest city in the province, almost completely destroyed after World War II and in fact known by the ominous nickname of “Martyr City”: in addition to the ruins of Casinum, the ancient Roman settlement, one can visit here numerous symbolic sites of World War II, such as the Polish Military Cemetery, the Memorial Museum of the Second Polish Army Corps and the Historial Museum.
