If Sicilians are said to be one the proudest folks in Italy, maybe the reason is that their region has one of the highest natural and artistic values in our country. Take Palermo as an example: other than its beautiful beaches, it also offers many examples of different architectural style which stem from a one-of-a-kind mingling of cultures along the centuries. The coming and going of ships brought here cultivations and traditions that cannot be found anywhere else in Italy. When you look at Palermo city centre you immediately get the confirmation of this by seeing a Baroque cathedral rich in Arabic decorations or a Neoclassical-style garden full of plants and trees from northern Africa. Also, Palermo is one of those cities where you can eat well anywhere you go, especially at those tiny little kiosks where you can buy Sicilian specialties like cannoli, arancini or fresh fish. Without realizing it, in a few days here you will be captured by the Sicilian way of life and fall deeply in love with the views, the smells and colours of the places in and around Palermo, so be prepared for a life-changing travel!
While Palermo can be enjoyed at its fullest on foot, things are very different when it comes to exploring its surroundings. Even though distances may not seem this wide, they can hardly be covered by relying on public transport. Renting a car in Sicily becomes thus mandatory if you wish to have a little bit of adventure outside the city and discover all the beautiful natural and artistic treasures that this region enshrines. Hiring a car at Palermo airport will allow you to cut on the time you would waste in airport transfers and immediately get going with whatever you have planned to do and see. Our rental office at Palermo Airport in Punta Raisi is open Monday to Sunday from 8 AM to 11 PM, so don’t worry if you’re travelling at late hours. Also, we have plenty of vehicles to fit any vacation plan perfectly: for instance, if you’re a young couple with a low budget, you can hire one of our economy cars suited for driving in the hardest traffic conditions; but if you have lots of luggage you can go for a family car, which has an undoubtedly superior cargo space and roomier cabin. Be sure to book your desired vehicle prior to getting here to ensure you get the car you need at the best rate online.
Palermo airport is actually closer to Trapani than Palermo, which you can reach in about 40 minutes by taking the highway or in an hour if you decide to take the panoramic route that goes along the northern coastline of Sicily. If you have time to spare and look for a little discovery time, this is certainly the best thing to do: otherwise you would renounce on seeing beautiful beaches such as the ones that you can find in Mondello, which is also encircled by a beautiful natural reserve where you can go hiking o just soak in the beautiful views with your family and friends. When reaching Palermo city centre, please drive very carefully because traffic can be a little messy here: of course, if you took your driving lessons in any big American city, you won’t be shocked at all, but feel free to ask our staff at Palermo airport any advice as to how drive safely in Sicily.
