Among the most characteristic religious buildings, on the other hand, are the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, which originated in the early Middle Ages but was rebuilt externally in the 18th century, and the Church of San Girolamo, Mestre’s oldest place of worship, Romanesque-Gothic in layout but with Baroque-style remodeling. For those who love the outdoors, then, there is certainly no shortage of green spaces in Mestre: examples include the San Giuliano Park, equipped with bicycle paths and several sports fields, the Osellino Woods, where there are among other things splendid horseback riding trails, and the Villa Franchin Park, which houses a women’s library with an anti-violence center attached.
