Booking with Locauto

How can I book a rental

You can book your car or your van rental directly on this website or via the Locauto Rent App available on Apple Store and Google Play Store (Van rental is unavailable on the App at the moment). If you prefer to book by phone, please call +39.02.430201 (from Monday to Friday from 8AM to 8PM and on the weekends from 9AM to 5PM).

Is it convenient to book on the Locauto website?

Locauto online rates are always competitive, transparent and give you the opportunity to configure your rental as you prefer. You can also choose to book and prepay all the services and accessories you want. In this way your rental experience will be peaceful and without surprises.

Is it possible to book a car after the closing time of the rental location?

Yes. The "Out of Hours" booking is an extra service that allows you to pick up a Car or a Van up to a maximum of 90 minutes after the rental office closing time. The service is subject to confirmation and it costs 30 euros plus airport / railways surcharges (where applicable) plus VAT. To request an "Out of Hours" booking, please call +39.02.430201.

Can I book a specific car model?

This option is currently not available.

Can I book a car for more than 30 days?

Yes: our Monthly+ special offer allows you to book online a Car or a Van up to a maximum of 365 days. If you need a longer rental, please call +39.02.430201.

Can I book a car equipped with winter tires?

Yes, during the winter months, Locauto has vehicles equipped with winter tires in fleet. You can book them online or by Call Center +39.02.430201.

Can I book a car with a specific fuel (petrol or diesel?)

This option is currently not available for online reservations. However, if you have special requests, please call +39.02.430201: we will do everything possible to assign the type of engine you want!

How can I modify my reservation?

If you are a registered user, log in to the App, go to "My Reservations" section, select the reservation you want to modify and follow the steps indicated. If you are not a registered user, please call +39.02.430201.

How can I cancel my reservation?

If you are a registered user, log in to the App, go to "My Reservations" section, select the reservation you want to cancel and follow the steps indicated. If you are not a registered user, please call +39.02.430201.

Is there a cost for changing or cancelling a booking?

You can modify a reservation at no additional costs, however, if you change some relevant data (for example the car group booked, or the rental length) the booked rate may not be guaranteed. Cancellations made 48 hours before the pick-up are free of charge and allow the reimbursement of the amount eventually prepaid. When cancellations are made within 48 hours before the rental, a cancellation fee of 50€ is required. Please check the Booking Terms and Conditions for more information.

What happens if I don't show-up to pick up the vehicle?

If you don't show-up to pick-up the booked Car or Van without canceling your reservation, you will be charged a penalty equal to the total amount booked (and possibly prepaid).

Excess and coverage

Is third-party liability insurance included in rental rate?

Yes, all Locauto vehicles are covered by third-party liability insurance (RC in Italian) and the related cost is included in our rental rates. The third-party liabiility insurance guarantees coverage for civil liability towards third parties with regard to persons, things and animals. Passengers also passengers are protected. As established by law, the third-party liability insurance doesn't cover the injuries suffered by the driver. To this purpose, we offer a service named PAI (Protection Against Injuries). Which is my responsibility in the event of damage or theft of the car?

Your responsibility, commonly called "excess", varies according to the group rented and the level of protection purchased. Please, make a quote on the website or on the App to check the excess amount applied to the Car or the Van you wish to rent. You can also book online one of the protection products to reduce or eliminate the damage and theft excess, both for Cars and for Vans.

How can I eliminate the damage and theft responsibility?

We offer 2 options: you can choose to completely eliminate the liability for damage and theft of the car by purchasing the Don't Worry package, which also includes extended Roadside Assistance and Protection Against Injuries. Alternatively, you can opt for Smart Cover protection which, at a lower cost, eliminates liability for damage to the bodywork, glass, windows and wheels and for theft of the car. You can purchase these products online on the website, on the App or when you collect your car.

How can I eliminate the excess on the rented Van

We offer 3 different options: SecurVan Cover completely eliminates theft liability and partially reduces damage liability, leaving a non-eliminable deductible amounting to a minimum of € 300 and a maximum of € 500. The Super SecurVan Cover eliminate, in addition to theft theft, also the damage excess. SecurVan and Super SecurVan don't cover damage caused accidentally to the load compartment, roof and underbody of the van, for which the customer is always fully responsible regardless of protection purchased. SecurLoad Cover only covers damage caused accidentally to the load compartment of the commercial vehicle and can be purchased separately or in combination with one of the two previous products.

I have a personal insurance coverage against damage or theft. Is it valid for my rental?

No. Any personal insurance stipulated by the customer with third-party companies is valid exclusively between the customer and the contracting company. So, in the event of theft or damage of the rented car, your liability towards Locauto can't take into consideration this insurance, and it will be regulated according to the type of rate booked, the protection products purchased and the General Rental Conditions.

There is an additional coverage to protect the driver?

Yes: the service is called Protection Against Injuries (PAI) and it provides a refund up to a maximum of 100,000 euros in the event of accidents suffered by the driver during the rental. The maximum refundable is reduced off 50% for 75 years old drivers and more. PAI service can be purchased online or at the time of the pick-up. Please check here for more information.

Deposit and credit card policy

Is a credit card required to rent at Locauto?

Yes, when collecting the vehicle the rental agreement owner is required to provide a credit o debit card to guarantee eventual damage, theft or extra cost not included in the rate or in the reservation.

What types of credit cards are accepted for the security deposit?

To rent a car or a van with Locauto the driver must own a credit card headed in his name. Debit cards are also accepted, except for L and T car groups, for which we accept only credit cards. Only cards belonging to the most popular circuits like Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Union Pay are accepted.

Which is the amount of the deposit for guarantee?

No deposit is required to rent a car, included Elefast cars. To rent a van, a 500 euro deposit is required for all groups. When purchasing “Super
SecurVan” (full coverage option) the deposit required is 100 euros. Please make sure that, when collecting the vehicle, the availability on the credit card provided s enough to cover the rental cost (when not prepaid online) as well as any additional services or accessories bought locally.

Can I rent a car or a van with a debit card?

Yes, debit cards are accepted for all car and van groups, except for L and T groups, for which a credit card is mandatory. Only nominative cards running on the major circuits like Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Union Pay are accepted.

Can I pay the rental with cash?

No, the rental amount can't be paid by cash. A nominative credit or debit card is required and it needs to be a valid internationally recognised credit/debit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Union Pay) showing the name of the holder of the contract.

Before the rental

Which are the driving license requirements to rent a car?

To rent a car or a van with Locauto you must own a driving license valid since a minimum of 1 year. The license must stay valid for the entire duration of the rental. If you are a foreign citizen, your license must be valid for international use. Driving licenses written only in Cyrillic, Hebrew, Chinese, Arab, Korean and Japanese characters are not accepted: these must be accompanied by an international driving license or an official translation, issued by an Italian embassy or by an equivalent authority. Translations issued by notary offices or private translation institutes are not valid.

Can I rent a car or a van if I've had my driving license for less than 12 months?

Drivers who have had their driving license for less than 12 months can only rent BY and CY categories, booking the “Locauto Young” rate. When selecting the age range on the booking engine and disabling the driving licens flag, the web site will offer a quotation with a rate for novice drivers. It is not possibile to rent a van if drivers have had their driving licence for less than 12 months.

Which documents are required to carry at the time of rental?

When collecting the vehicle, you will be required to show your driving license, an ID card, a nominative credit or debit card to secure the deposit. If you don't reside in a EU country, you will be also asked to bring your passport. Finally, a digital copy of your booking/voucher.

I am less than 21: can I rent a car?

Drivers aged between 19 and 21 can only rent B or C categories and only with a driving license valid for a minimum of one year. A mandatory "Young Driver Fee" is required. When selecting the age range on the booking engine, the rate offered will include the fee. Drivers who have had their driving license for less than 12 months can only rent BY and CY categories, booking the “Locauto Young” rate. When selecting the age range on the booking engine and disabling the driving licens flag, the web site will offer a quotation with a rate for novice drivers.

I am between 22 and 25: can I rent a car with Locauto?

Drivers aged between 22 and 25 can only rent B, C, D, E and F categories and only with a driving license valid for a minimum of one year. A mandatory "Young Driver Fee" is required. When selecting the age range on the booking engine, the rate offered will include the fee. Drivers who have had their driving license for less than 12 months can only rent BY and CY categories, booking the “Locauto Young” rate. Which is the minimum age to rent a van?

All our vans can be rented by drivers at least 21 years old. Drivers are required to own a driving license valid since a minimum of 1 year.

What is the maximum renting age?

There is no maximum age limit for renting a car with Locauto. However our staff always reserves the right to not provide the car if the driver doesn't show adequate ability to drive at the time of the pick-up.

Can any passenger drive the vehicle?

Yes, but any driver must be present when collecting the vehicle and must be included in the rental agreement as "additional driver". Each additional driver must meet the same age and driver license requirements of the main driver. The "Additional Driver" service could be subject to a fee: make a online quote online to check more.

How does snow chains policy work?

During the winter season, on most of the Italian road network winter equipment on board is mandatory. To allow you to travel in compliance with the law, the snow chains are already included in the web rates.

Car pick-up

I booked a car at an airport / train station, but my flight / train is late. What should I do?

If you entered the flight / train number in the reservation, our staff will keep your car available up to a maximum of 59 minutes after landing time or train's arrival. If you pick up the vehicle after closing time, you will be required to pay an "Out of hours" fee, as indicated in the Rental Special Conditions. In case of night flights or serious delays, the rental office can wait up to a maximum of 1 hour and 30 minutes after closing time. In case of delay, we ask you to inform the rental location as soon as possible.

Should the additional driver be present at the time the rental agreement is signed?

Yes. Any additional driver must show-up when collecting the vehicle to show the documents and record their data.

I realised that the vehicle booked is too small: what can I do?

You can change your reservation before the rental by calling +39.02.430201. Alternatively, you can ask the staff to provide a bigger car or van, subject to availability. This service is subject to an extra cost to be paid locally.

What happens if there are pre-existing-damage on the vehicle?

Normally Locauto cars and vans are new and in excellent condition. However, if a vehicle shows minor scratches or damage, these will be included in the "Check-out" form that will be shown and sent to you at the pick-up. Also, you will be asked to sign it for acceptance. In this way, pre-existing damages will not generate issues when returning the vehicle.

During the rental

How can I extend my rental?

Please call the rental location and let us kno when you wish to drop-off the car or the van. Please notice that rental rates apply every 24 hours, so in case of extension your rental length may vary and you may be required to pay an additional day. Ask our staff for more information.

What should I do in the event of an accident with a counterpart?

We always recommend to call the police. When this is not possible, you are required to ascertain the facts with the counterpart and fill the CAI form, a friendly accident ascertainment form available in paper copy in all our vehicles. This form must be delivered to our staff when you return the car or the van and sent in electronic copy as soon as possible to the rental office. If the vehicle is no longer marching, please call the roadside assistance service (from Italy and abroad +39 0243020450).

What should I do if I damage the vehicle in an accident without a counterpart?

When delivering the vehicle back, you are required to inform the staff of our rental office, which will assess the extent of the damage and - if possible - the amount. Remember that if you return the damaged vehicle without making any kind of declaration, your behavior will be considered negligent and and you may result liable for the entire amount of the damage. Please check the General Rental Conditions for more information. If the vehicle is no longer marching, please call the roadside assistance (from Italy and abroad +39 0243020450).

What should I do in case of theft?

You are required to go to a public authority as soon as possible and get a theft report. After that, you are required to reach the nearest Locauto rental location within 24 hours from the theft and release a copy of the report and the vehicle keys. Please notice that the rental agreement will be deemed concluded only upon delivering the report and the vehicle keys.

I am going to the mountains during winter months: what precautions should I take?

We recommend to pay attention to low temperatures: when temperatures drop below zero, fuel may freeze and may damage the vehicle engine. To avoid any troubles, we recommend to refuel with antifreeze fuel, which is normally available at all the mountain service stations. Alternatively, you can put some antifreeze additive into the tank. You can buy it at any service station.

Can I drive with the car or the van outside Italy?

All our vehicles can be driven across EU countries at no additional cost. They can also be guided in Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Circulation is prohibited in countries not included in this list. In the event of an accident or technical stop in one of the countries where circulation is not permitted, the protection products and roadside assistance services will be waiwed, and customer will be deemed responsible for the full amount of damage, theft and eventual costs of vehicle recovery.

Can I drop off the car or the van in a foreign country?

This service is not available at the moment.

I need to drop off the vehicle earlier than expected. What should I do?

You can reach our rental location to deliver the vehicle and close the rental agreement. Please, notice that in case of prepaid rental, days not used in the voucher won't be refundable.

How can I get help in case of breakdown?

In the event of breakdown, or after an accident that left your vehicle not marching, please can call the roadside assistance (from Italy and abroad +39 0243020450) and follow the instructions. We will do everything possible to allow you to restart your journey as soon as possible. Also we kindly request to inform the rental location as soon as possible.

How many kilometres can I make with my car?

It depends on the rate you have booked or contracted when you picked-up the car. Normally, online rates include unlimited mileage, if not otherwise specified. Just keep in mind that if the rental exceeds 30 days, a maximum limit of kilometers may apply, as well as an extra fee per each extra kilometers. The cost is available on the Special Rental Conditions as well as on the front page of the rental agreement.

How many kilometres can I make with my van?

It depends on the rate you have booked or contracted when you picked-up the van. Online rates offer 3 options: 50 or 100 kms per day or unlimited mileage. For rental exceeding 30 days, the maximum mileage span from 3.000 to 6.000 kms. In case of extra mileage, you may run in an extra cost per km indicated on the Special Rental Conditions.

Vehicle drop-off

Shall I wash the vehicle before the drop-off?

We normally don't ask our customers to wash the car or the van before drop-off. However if the vehicle is particularly dirty, externally and internally, our staff may need to make a special cleaning and charge a cost for this service, as indicated in our Rental Special Conditions.

I will be late in delivering the vehicle back: what's going to happen?

In case of late delivery respect on what stated on the rental agreement, please inform promptly the rental location where you are supposed to return the vehicle. Alternatively call +39.02.430201. Please notice that the daily rental rates apply every 24 hours, so in case of late delivery, you will be charged for an extra day cost.

Can I drop off the vehicle when the rental office is closed?

Yes, out of hours drop-off is available at all our airport locations and in some downtown location where the service is enabled. Remember please that you will be deemed responsible for the vehicle integrity and safety until the office will reopen: this is the moment when the rental agreement will be deemed concluded. Please check the Rental Locations section of our website to see if this service is available at the desired rental office.

How does the out-of-hours policy work ?

Out of hours drop off involves some procedures that our customers are kindly required to follow. Please check the Rental Locations section of our website to learn more about out-of-hours procedures related to your selected drop-off location.

How does the fuel policy work?

Our vehicles are normally delivered with a full tank and we ask our customers to bring them back with the same fuel level. If for any reason you won't be able to refuel before the drop-off, we will refuel the vehicle for you: we charge a fee for this service, as well as the missing fuel cost. Alternatively, you can buy the "prepaid fuel option" when collecting the vehicle (info about costs are provided locally): this way you will be free to drop-off the car or the van with an empty tank, but the fuel eventually not used won't be refunded. Please ask the rental location staff for more information before collecting the vehicle.

Can I drop off the car in a rental location different from the original one?

No problem, we just ask you to inform in advance our rental location or our call center (+39.02.430201). Please remember that drop-off in a different location may result in a "one-way fee" that may be charged at the end of the rental. The cost is indicated in the Special Rental Conditions.

Can I drop-off the van to a different location?

No, this service is not available at the moment.

How does the quantification and charging of damages work?

Once the extent of the damage and - if possible - the relative amount have been ascertained, you will be offered the opportunity to immediately reimburse Locauto for the amount of the damage, according to the Car and Van Damage List. Payment can be made at the time of returning the vehicle, using the credit or debit card provided as guarantee.

The vehicle I am returning has suffered damage: what should I do?

When dropping-off the car or the van, you will be welcomed by our parking staff who will invite you to check the conditions of the vehicle. In the event that damage or missing parts are detected, you will be deemed responsible of the related amount, as provided for in the Car and Van Damage List.

How can I reject the paternity of a damage?

You can raise a claim to our parking staff and also to the Customer Service Online available on this website.

After the rental

How long will my security deposit be blocked?

Our systems release the security deposit right after the end of the rental agreement. However, it may happen that the blocked amount doesn't come immediately available to the customer. Usually the interbank circuits and the companies managing credit cards require technical times, which can keep the amount blocked for a few days, and in some cases even for a few weeks.

How does it work the lost and found service?

Please contact the rental office where you dropped-off the vehicle as soon as possible and provide as many details as possible about your rental agreement. Our staff will activate immediately to recover the lost item and will provide you the instructions for collection. Please note that collection is under your expenses.

I got a traffic fine during my rental. What happens?

The authority that issued the fine (it may be the Municipal Police, the Traffic Police, the Carabinieri etc.) sends the fine to Locauto as owner of the vehicle. Locauto don't pay the fine on behalf of the customer, therefore we send the driver's data to the authority that issued the fine. After that, the authority forward the fine to the driver address. Locauto applies a penalty with an amount that varies depending on the violation, as specified in the Special Rental Conditions.

How can I get the rental invoice?

The invoice will be sent to you by e-mail at the end of the rental. In case of non-receipt, you can get it either through the reserved area of the website and the App, or by logging in the Online Customer Service.

I want to make a complaint for the service received or for an unclear charge. How can I do?

If you need to contact our customer service for information, clarifications or to raise a claim, please go to the Online Customer Service. Our customer service specialists will review your request and reply as soon as possible.

Loyalty program MyLocauto Friends

What is the MyLocauto Friends program?

MyLocauto Friends is the program that rewards your loyalty with exclusive discounts and benefits for an increasingly unique rental experience.

Do I have to register on the MyLocauto reserved area in order to join the MyLocauto Friends program?

Yes, in order to join the MyLocauto Friends program you need to register on the MyLocauto reserved area and complete your profile by filling in your user details.

If I make a qualifying rental that gives me access to the next level, when will the tier benefits apply?

From the booking following the last rental, you will be able to enjoy the benefits of the new level.

If I decide to unsubscribe from the program, can I re-register at a later time?

Yes, even immediately, and Locauto will automatically determine the level.

I want to unsubscribe from the MyLocauto Friends program, how can I do?

If you don't want to continue being part of the MyLocauto Friends program, simply access the MyLocauto Friends section and proceed with unsubscribing.

If I am a member of the MyLocauto Friends program and have not rented in the last 365 days, do I lose the privileges of the program?

No, the customer always retains the privileges of the beginner level. However, if he had accrued the privileges of enthusiast and/or expert, he would be demoted to the starting level (beginner)

How long does my subscription to MyLocauto Friends last?

The MyLocauto Friends program subscription is valid until 12/31/2025 and as long as you decide not to be part of the program anymore.

If I decide to extend the duration of a rental in progress, does the extension count as a new rental?

No, it will only ever be counted as a single rental.

Can I combine the discount of an active promotion with the one provided by my loyalty level?

No, if you want to use the discount code from an active promotion, the discount will be applied to the base rate and not to the one provided by your MyLocauto Friends level.

If I rent a car for 30 days or more, can I take advantage of the benefits provided by the MyLocauto Friends program?

No, for all car rentals starting from 30 days (monthly rentals) it is not possible to take advantage of the benefits provided by the program. However, rentals starting from 30 days allow you to compete to reach the next level.

If I rent for 1 hour, can I take advantage of the benefits provided by the MyLocauto Friends program?

Yes, for all rentals, starting from 1h up to 29 days, it is possible to take advantage of the benefits provided by the program.

If I rent through a corporate agreement, can I join MyLocauto Friends?

Sì, se l’accesso al profilo non avviene tramite invito aziendale. I noleggi aziendali concorrono al raggiungimento del livello e ti consentono di accedere ai benefit previsti da ciascun livello per noleggi personali.

Is it possible to take advantage of the MyLocauto Friends benefits if I rent a van?

Yes, van rental allows you to take advantage of the benefits in relation to the level you belong to (applicable only on the mileage rate of 200km/day) and contribute to the achievement of other levels (qualifying rentals).

Is it possible to take advantage of the MyLocauto Friends benefits if I rent with Elefast?

Yes.

Is it possible to take advantage of the MyLocauto Friends benefits if I book through a platform other than the website?

No, all rentals made through channels other than the direct Locauto ones, contribute only to the formation of the level (qualifying rentals) but will not be able to benefit from the advantages deriving from belonging to a level.

From which channels is it possible to take advantage of the benefits of MyLocauto Friends?

It is possible to take advantage of the benefits provided by the MyLocauto Friends program from all Locauto direct channels: website, Locauto Rent app, Customer Center and rental offices.

Is it necessary to present a loyalty card at the rental office?

No, if you already subscribed to the MyLocauto Friends program, you can just provide the Driver ID (available in the MyLocauto Friends section) or your name.

How do I get promoted or demoted to a certain level?

Once in the MyLocauto Friends program, Locauto verifies the number of rentals you have made (qualifying rentals) in the last 365 days. Based on the total number of rentals reached, you will be assigned the corresponding level. Beginner, from 0 to 2 rentals; Enthusiast from 3 to 5 rentals; Expert from 6 rentals.

How can I find out my level and the benefits reserved for me?

You can view your level through the MyLocauto Friends section, by accessing the MyLocauto reserved area with your credentials.

What are the levels of the MyLocauto Friends program?

The three levels of MyLocauto Friends are: Beginner, Enthusiast and Expert.
