With its Baroque palaces, monumental churches, and the picturesque Via Nicolaci, Noto is one of the most famous destinations in southeastern Sicily. The city is particularly pleasant to explore on foot, while a car is most useful for getting there and getting around the surrounding area. Before entering the historic center, it is therefore advisable to familiarize yourself with the traffic rules and available parking areas.
In the historic center of Noto, traffic on streets and in squares may be subject to restrictions, especially during events and periods of high tourist traffic. These regulations may also change temporarily depending on traffic conditions.
For this reason, when arriving in the city by car, it is important to pay attention to the local traffic signs and any temporary ordinances issued by the municipality, rather than relying solely on your GPS. For those traveling in a rental car, it’s therefore a good idea to check for official updates on the City of Noto’s website shortly before departure, especially during peak season or around long weekends, national holidays, and special events.
One of the best-known events is undoubtedlythe Infiorata di Noto, which traditionally takes place in May along Via Nicolaci. The event, which will mark its 47th edition in 2026, transforms the famous Baroque street into a vast carpet of floral arrangements and attracts numerous visitors every year. In 2026, the event took place from May 16 to 19, with setup beginning the day before. Due to the large crowds, specific guidelines for accessing the city and parking are provided during the Infiorata, including designated parking areas and a shuttle service.
Another important event is the Feast of St. Conrad, the city’s patron saint, traditionally celebrated twice a year: on February 19 and the last Sunday in August. The summer celebrations feature processions, religious events, and related activities that take place throughout the historic center. During the festival, some streets may be subject to temporary traffic changes; if you’re visiting Noto on these days, it’s therefore advisable to check the municipal ordinances in advance.
To visit the city center, it is advisable to find a parking spot in the outskirts or immediately adjacent to the historic center and continue on foot. The City has also planned for 2026 the possibility of establishing temporary seasonal parking areas within the municipal boundaries, which will be in effect during the summer until September 30. The availability of these areas may therefore vary throughout the year: before setting out, it is advisable to check for the most up-to-date information, especially during the busiest months.
Once you’ve parked your car, the most enjoyable way to explore Noto is to stroll along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Piazza Municipio, the Cathedral, and Via Nicolaci. Since the main attractions are relatively close together, it makes little sense to keep moving your car around the city center. Leaving your car and continuing on foot also allows you to enjoythe Baroque architecture and the many activities in the city center at a more leisurely pace.
