When talking about Rome, it is impossible not to think about Villa Borghese, one of its most glorious symbols together with the Coliseum and the Fountain of Trevi. Its luxurious gardens, where the neoclassic Temple of Aesculapius overlooks a peaceful pond, and its beautiful museum, with a collection of unique works from Caravaggio and Tiziano, make it the best place to profoundly savor the ancient, magical identity of this city. Nearby are also the Roman Forum, where ruins from a series of ancient government buildings stand, the Pantheon and the Coliseum, the latter being the biggest Roman amphitheatre in the world. Just a few steps away, in Piazza Venezia, stand the imposing figure of the Victor Emmanuel II Nation Monument and the Trajan’s Column, whose spiral bas relief depicts the wars conducted by emperor Trajan against the Dacians. In the very short range of a few kilometres, great marvels await you: from the most awe-inspiring world-famous monuments to the painting-perfect glimpses of nature you can get just walking its street, the amount of beauty you can take in can be overwhelming. Thinking about using public transport instead of a rental car? Think twice! Buses and underground trains in Rome are quite unreliable and affected by a lot of discontinuities and travelling by car generally saves a lot of time on transfers. What’s more, there are very poor connections with outer places in Rome and service is practically off at night. By the way, when travelling by car, please make sure to check traffic updates in advance and avoid driving at rush hour so as not to find yourself stuck in an endless queue: try to leave half an hour earlier and save a lot of stress instead!
