You can reach Tropea by car via the A2 motorway, exiting at Pizzo or Vibo Valentia, then continuing along the SP522 toward Tropea. The roads are scenic but narrow and winding, so drive carefully especially during peak season or busy times of day.
If you’re traveling by train, Tropea’s station is centrally located and just a short walk from the sea. The nearest airport is Lamezia Terme (where you’ll find a Locauto car rental office), about 60 km away roughly a one-hour drive.
ZTL in Tropea: when and where it’s active
Tropea’s old town is subject to a limited traffic zone (ZTL) during the summer months. Key affected areas include Corso Vittorio Emanuele the main pedestrian street leading to the panoramic terrace Via Roma, surrounding streets with restaurants, bars, and tourist services, and the area around Piazza Ercole, the heart of local life.
The ZTL is usually active from June to September, with hours generally running from 7 PM to 2 AM, though these may be extended on weekends or during special events. Access is limited to authorized vehicles: residents, emergency services, delivery vehicles during certain hours, and guests of hotels or accommodations with a temporary permit.
