ZTL Catania: where can you enter by car?
Let’s immediately address an important aspect of Catania: the ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone)! The restricted traffic area, active 24/7, currently covers the area enclosed by Via A. di Sangiuliano, Via Monsignor Ventimiglia, Via Vittorio Emanuele, Via Raddusa, Via S. Maria del Rosario, Via della Loggetta, Via Euplio Reina, and Via A. Mancini. At the intersection of Via Vittorio Emanuele with Via S. Agata and Via Landolina, there are two cameras monitoring the entrances, which are only permitted for residents and police/emergency vehicles without exceptions.
The ZTL area corresponds with the historic center, where most of the craft businesses and youth hangouts are concentrated, and can be easily traversed on foot in a short time. The seafront area is freely accessible by car, as are all areas just outside the limited traffic zone of Catania.
If you plan to use this city as a starting point for other nearby and distant destinations, driving won’t be a major issue: it’s true that Catania’s traffic can be very hectic during peak hours, and road signs are not always accurate, but with an updated GPS, you can travel from Catania to other towns and cities in Sicily without breaking a sweat!
