Rent a Palermo
Palermo is a city so rich in history, art and gastronomic culture that it is impossible to make an exhaustive program of what to see in the Sicilian capital without leaving out something important: our advice is certainly not to devote a single weekend to the exploration of this ancient city, but to spend at least a week there so as to discover all its most hidden glimpses, fully enjoy its atmosphere and also carve out some time to visit the beautiful beaches, villages and nature reserves that are located a few dozen kilometers from Palermo. If, in fact, the city offers an architectural heritage of immense value, the natural treasure scattered in its vicinity is certainly no less: places such as Castellammare del Golfo, the Zingaro nature reserve, San Vito Lo Capo or Erice are indeed worth a visit. Everywhere, then, it is possible to taste the specialties of Sicilian cuisine, such as bread with spleen, arancini, cassata, cannoli, brioche with granita and much more: prepared on the spot and devoured with gusto in front of the sublime panorama of a majestic Baroque church or orange groves as far as the eye can see, they will acquire an even better flavor that you will not be able to find elsewhere and that will make your vacation in Sicily unforgettable.
If you plan to explore the Sicilian coastline and interior, not limiting yourself solely to visiting the city of Palermo, renting a car is practically a must. The most efficient and practical way to do this is to resort to a car rental located at Palermo airport, so that you can immediately hit the road as soon as you land in Punta Raisi: being able to get around Sicily by car is no small freedom, if we take into consideration the scarcity of rail and road connections in the region, especially off-peak and pre-summer times. Locauto car rental at Palermo airport solves for you every logistical problem as it offers continuous opening hours, from 8 am until 11 pm, every day including Sundays; in our fleet you will find a wide variety of vehicles from which to choose the most suitable one with respect to your travel needs. For example, choosing a crossover or SUV may be a good idea for those who plan to climb up mountains or travel over somewhat uneven terrain, but also for those looking for a gritty and stylish car for work, while a family car (the classic station wagon or a minivan) remains the winning solution for those traveling with children and need to carry a fair amount of luggage. Hatchbacks or sedans, on the other hand, are a great option for those looking for a cheap car rental service in Palermo. Check out our search engine to discover the full range of car rentals at Palermo Airport and book the one you’re interested in now to ensure you get the best deal of the season! We also have a fleet of modern vans for rent in Palermo: check out our Palermo airport van rental page to find out more or take a look at our other car rental offices in Catania Fontanarossa and Trapani airport.
Reaching the city center from Palermo airport, located at Punta Raisi, takes about 40 minutes of travel time along the E90. Alternatively, it is possible to choose a scenic route that passes through the town of Mondello, which takes about an hour: there are many points of interest along this route that can be visited safely by relying on a rental car. Mondello itself, for example, has extraordinary beaches and, in its city center, numerous examples of Art Nouveau architecture. Also abutting the town is the Capo Gallo reserve, which offers hiking trails and sweeping views of the sea that will keep trekkers happy. On the other hand, we recommend great caution behind the wheel in the center of Palermo, as the traffic can be very chaotic indeed. And if you want to find out how to rent a car directly from your smartphone without going through the rental counter, download the Locauto Elefast app now and check the vehicles available on the dates you are interested in!

If you are already contemplating a trip to Palermo, you may not be entirely unfamiliar with the reasons why the Sicilian capital is one of those places worth visiting at least once in a lifetime. Elected city of culture in 2018 and rich in places and monuments of great historical and artistic value on which UNESCO was not slow to affix its stamp, Palermo exerts an inordinate fascination on anyone who visits it. The many cultures and civilizations that have succeeded one another there over the centuries have in fact stamped on every aspect of its identity: not only on the architecture, the result of the mingling of these different influences, but also on the food, the craft traditions and, last but not least, the language. On the streets of Palermo one breathes Norman, Greek and Moroccan suggestions in equal measure: neoclassical-inspired buildings, such as the Politeama Theater, alternate with many other styles, often fused together in unrepeatable unicums such as that of the Cathedral of the Holy Virgin Mary of the Assumption, in which Gothic and Norman elements converge together, or the Church of the Magione, which combines a typically Norman layout with Arab and Baroque artistic elements. The cuisine, too, bears witness to this incredible melting pot and represents a very important chapter of any visit to Palermo, whether it is a single-day stop within a larger tour or an extended stay; local cuisine plays on local, extremely fresh and tasty ingredients, many of which are in common with countries on the other side of the Mediterranean. Some of the best-known and world-loved Sicilian specialties include dishes such as bread with spleen, arancine or panelle, and, among desserts, cannoli and cassata.
Art, history and food are thus the cornerstones of Palermo’s culture, the poles around which the attraction to this city gravitates, an essential stop on any on-the-road tour of Sicily but also a likely destination for longer stays. In fact, Palermo is so rich in attractions-cultural and otherwise, given its enviable nightlife-that it provides virtually unlimited recreation for anyone, regardless of his or her tastes and vacation preferences. In addition to the city center, the province of Palermo is also well worth a visit, and this is where Palermo car rental comes in, which can support any of your out-of-town trips at whatever time you wish to embark on your adventures. Locauto allows you to rent a car in the center of Palermo by choosing, from a wide range of vehicles, the one that best suits your travel needs, eventually returning it to one of our rental offices in Sicily other than the one you left. You can then explore, with all the comfort in the world, beaches near and far, from Mondello (near Palermo) to San Vito Lo Capo (in the northwestern tip of Sicily), picturesque trekking routes on the slopes of Mount Etna, and even the beautiful villages that dot the island’s coastline. Book your favorite car now and start planning the stages of your road trip in Sicily: thanks to an on-site rental, you will save time and money compared to using your own private car and, above all, you will be free to explore Palermo and its surroundings in complete freedom!
Our Palermo city rental point is a convenient reference point for those arriving in the Sicilian capital by land: in fact, it is about one kilometer from the Notarbartolo train station and can be reached by bus line 704. If, on the other hand, you are arriving in Palermo by air, we recommend that you contact our rental office at Palermo airport; you may eventually decide to return the vehicle to a different Locauto point, such as the one in Palermo city.
