Rent a Venice
Considered the gateway to Venice by virtue of its location close to the Venetian capital, Mestre is also one of the region’s most important economic hubs. This commercial vocation of its has very ancient roots, so much so that in the Middle Ages the city of Venice had to take it over to limit its dangerous expansion. It was at that time that Mestre and Venice began to weave very close trade relations. Well connected to Venice by rail and surface lines, Mestre is also an undeniably cheaper and, thanks to fewer tourists, quieter place to live than the capital. This does not mean, however, that the town lacks attractions of its own: the nerve center of Mestre is Piazza Ferretto, the most popular spot for tourists and locals alike, who gather there for a spritz or a stroll along the porticoes in the shadow of the Clock Tower, the only remaining vestige of the ancient city walls. Among the most characteristic religious buildings, on the other hand, are the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, which originated in the early Middle Ages but was rebuilt externally in the 18th century, and the Church of San Girolamo, Mestre’s oldest place of worship, Romanesque-Gothic in layout but with Baroque-style remodeling. For those who love the outdoors, then, there is certainly no shortage of green spaces in Mestre: examples include the San Giuliano Park, equipped with bicycle paths and several sports fields, the Osellino Woods, where there are among other things splendid horseback riding trails, and the Villa Franchin Park, which houses a women’s library with an anti-violence center attached.

Mestre is therefore an excellent point of reference for all those who, permanently or for tourism, are looking for a place to stay in Veneto that is quiet, but at the same time not devoid of cultural attractions and entertainment proposals (one among all: the Heineken Jammin Festival previously hosted by the city of Imola has been held here for several years). Of course, for those who work or are on vacation, the fact that Mestre is so close to Venice makes it an ideal point of support for going back and forth from the city: our car rental at Venice Mestre station was born precisely with the idea of offering the possibility for workers and tourists to make these movements without resorting to public transport, but taking advantage of the undeniable comfort of a private vehicle without, however, having to worry about the administrative and maintenance costs associated instead with owning a car. Renting a car in Venice Mestre with Locauto is very simple: booking can be done either online or in person or through a call center, choosing from a wide range of vehicles ranging from electric cars to the SUV segment and thus able to meet every need for comfort, space and luxury. The service, which is open to professionals as well as individuals, is complemented by a rich proposal of rental vans addressed to those who need to transport large quantities of materials to or from Mestre, for example, for a move or for the organization of an event.
The station of Venezia Mestre, where our car rental is located, is inside a no-traffic zone and can be reached in only half an hour by car from Padua; from Mestre, on the other hand, it takes about 35 minutes to reach Tronchetto, the main interchange point for motorists heading to the historic center of the lagoon city. Locauto’s staff in Venice Mestre is at your disposal to show you the easiest way to reach your final destination, be it Venice or other locations in the Veneto region, and to advise you on the most appropriate vehicle for your short- or long-term rental in Mestre.

There is really no shortage of good reasons to visit the pearl of the Lagoon in any season. The first to come to mind is certainly Carnival: a world-famous event that for a few days transforms Venice into a multicolored painting of historical masks and costumes. But the Venetian capital is able to fill the eye even when it is not invaded by swirls of confetti: indeed, the humidity of winter and the fog rising from the canals give it a mysterious aura full of charm, which can be fully enjoyed by booking a gondola ride or taking the vaporetto to the islands of Burano and Giudecca. However, Venice is also a very important city of art that captivates not only with its hidden corners but also with its historical architectural heritage, such as the Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s bell tower or the Bridge of Sighs. Not to mention all that can be visited in the surrounding area: Caorle with its lagoon, the Jesolo Lido with the verdant panorama of the mouth of the Piave River, and then Chioggia, the “little Venice,” Bibione and the markets of Cavallino and Treporti, which will immerse you in the ancient peasant traditions of the place.
In and around Venice, therefore, there is plenty to see: at worst, you can always take refuge in a taverna to eat a good plate of baccalà (salt cod) or another of the many (and very tasty!) recipes of Venetian cuisine, washing it all down with excellent prosecco and grappa. In Venice, of course, you can also get there by car, although boats are popular here: in case, however, you want to venture to other parts of the province in addition to the center of Venice, renting a car can be very helpful. Upon arrival in the city, you can leave it in one of the many parking lots at the end of the Ponte della Libertà and then retrieve it the moment you want to explore the surroundings of the city; leaving the car in Mestre is certainly less expensive, but you will have to head to the lagoon by train. With Locauto, you can rent your car at Venice airport or Mestre station, choosing the vehicle that best suits your needs in terms of space, luxury and performance: in fact, among the vehicles available in our fleet you will find hatchbacks, minivans, station wagons, as well as SUVs and crossovers. Book online now to get the best rate!
Marco Polo Airport in Venice is only 13 kilometers from the city center and is therefore the ideal arrival point for travelers from other cities in northern, central and southern Italy who prefer the plane to the train or bus: in fact, the airport system that includes the Venice and Treviso airports ranks third among Italian airport hubs after Rome and Milan in terms of passenger traffic. From here reaching the city center is very quick: it takes less than 20 minutes, traffic permitting, to get to the Tronchetto parking lot, one of the main interchange points for motorists heading to Venice. Along the way, one can stop at San Giuliano Park for a picnic or a simple walk in the greenery while observing the view of the lagoon. In less than an hour, Padua, Chioggia and many other well-known locations in the Veneto region can be reached from the airport.
